What do we source in the furniture and wood products group?
This group combines two separate jobs: finished furniture and wood raw materials. The headings below cover both; you can also raise a request for a product you cannot see listed.

Which documents are required for furniture and wood?
There are two separate documentation worlds here: the wood itself (emissions, heat treatment, forest source) and the finished furniture (durability, fire, safety). We establish which applies to your product at the request stage.

Formaldehyde emission class Class E1 or E0.5 for MDF, chipboard and particle board; CARB / TSCA Title VI compliance for sales into the United States. Without it, panel products cannot enter many markets.

ISPM 15 heat treatment Mandatory for shipments containing wooden packaging, pallets or solid wood. Treated wood must carry the stamp; an unstamped pallet can stop the entire shipment on arrival.

FSC and forest source declaration Certification of sustainable forest sourcing. Sales into Europe additionally require due diligence documentation showing the wood comes from a legal source.

Durability and safety testing Load and stability testing for office and dining chairs, safety standards for children's furniture, heavy-use testing for hotel furniture. From an accredited laboratory.

Upholstery fire performance Hotel, hospital, office and institutional projects require a fire behaviour test report for upholstery fabric and foam. Materials are not approved on public projects without it.

Origin and movement documents Certificate of origin, A.TR for the EU, EUR.1 for countries with a free trade agreement. Some countries apply additional duties on furniture and panel products.
Typical working terms
The table below shows customary practice in the furniture and wood products group; the terms applying to each order are set out in the written quotation.

Where do we source furniture and wood from?
There are two separate jobs in this group: the finished furniture and panel and timber raw materials. The first is a question of craftsmanship, the second of forest supply; the choice of source follows accordingly.
Furniture manufacturing clusters
Furniture production in Türkiye is organised in clusters: İnegöl concentrates on seating and bedroom furniture, Kayseri on volume production, Istanbul and Ankara on office and contract furniture.
What this means in practice is being able to take your product to the factory that actually specialises in it and being able to meet requests for special dimensions.
From prototype to series
On contract furniture you usually have a technical drawing and bill of materials . We match that drawing to a factory capable of producing it.
The prototype is not negotiable in this group: we do not go to series production without approval. There is no remedy for a hundred hotel rooms of furniture made wrong.

Assembled furniture ships air. Sent flat-packed, the same container holds far more units and the unit freight cost falls.
In exchange it needs assembly instructions, part numbering and a complete hardware set. We compare which option suits you based on the assembly capability at destination.
Sourcing from outside Türkiye
The Black Sea basin and Northern Europe are strong in timber and some panel products, Europe in speciality veneers and technical panels, the Far East in furniture hardware. For these items we use our global supplier network .
Even when raw materials come from another country, the prototype step remains. We do not move from an unapproved prototype to series production — origin does not change that.
Most common questions in furniture sourcing
Can we have furniture made to our own drawings?
You can; on contract furniture that is the norm. We match manufacturers from the technical drawing and bill of materials.
It also works without a drawing: we can produce one from a sample piece or an image. Either way the next step is the prototype — we do not go to series production without approval.
Is it better to ship assembled or flat-packed?
Flat-packed in most cases. Assembled furniture ships air; sent flat-packed, the same container holds markedly more units and the unit freight cost falls.
In exchange it needs assembly instructions, part numbering and a complete hardware set. Where there is no assembly capability at destination, assembled shipment can make more sense; we price both and show you.
Why does the formaldehyde class matter on panel products?
Because it is an entry requirement in many markets. Emission class E1 or lower is required for MDF, chipboard and particle board, and a separate compliance regime applies for sales into the United States.
Panels without certification can be turned back at customs. State the destination country in your request and we will check which class is needed and whether the manufacturer's certificate is valid.
Why is the ISPM 15 stamp required?
Because of the risk of carrying pests, wooden packaging and pallets must be heat treated and stamped. The rule also applies to products containing solid wood.
An unstamped pallet can stop the entire shipment on arrival — not just the pallet but the goods on it. We therefore check pallet and packaging timber before loading.
How do you work on hotel and project jobs?
We work from the room list and bill of materials: how many rooms, of which type, and which pieces in each. A prototype room is produced and series production follows approval.
Delivery is split into instalments matched to the hotel's opening schedule. The real risk on this work is delay: a hotel whose furniture has not arrived cannot open, so we state realistic lead times and monitor production on site.
Can we choose the upholstery fabric?
You can. You may supply your own fabric, choose from the manufacturer's collection, or ask us to source it.
On institutional projects the fabric's fire behaviour test and abrasion resistance matter; these reports are required on hotel, hospital and office projects. Because fabric supply can be the longest item in the lead time, we settle it early.
Can you supply FSC certified wood?
We can. We do not issue the certificate; where your request requires one, we restrict supplier selection to facilities holding a valid certificate.
Here too the scope is checked: which link of the chain does the certificate cover? Sales into Europe additionally require due diligence documentation showing the wood comes from a legal source.
Will you source a furniture or wood product that is not available in Türkiye?
We do. Clef Trade is based in Türkiye, but sourcing is not limited to Türkiye; for timber, speciality panels or certain hardware groups we obtain them from the Black Sea basin, Northern Europe and the Far East through our global supplier network.
The process stays the same: supplier research, sampling and prototyping, inspection, certification and shipping run from a single point. When the origin changes, the emission certification and customs duty change too; we show the comparison in writing in the quotation.
